As each person deals with the pain, despair, anger and heartbreak that come with such monumental loss, they struggle through the challenges of finding the strength and optimism to move forward and begin healing.

THE LOVING STORY
Nancy Buirski
USA, 2011, 77 MINUTES/ STERLING US COMPETITION

Mildred and Richard Loving never imagined that their unassuming love story would be the basis of a watershed anti-miscegenation civil rights case. But in 1967, when this soft-spoken interracial couple are exiled from Virginia – the only home they have ever known – for the mere crime of falling in love and getting married, they feel they have no choice but to fight back.

Elisabeth James, Producer (F'99)

MISS REPRESENTATION
Jennifer Siebel Newsom

USA, 2011, 90 MINUTES, ENGLISH
As mainstream media becomes a more ubiquitous presence in our everyday lives, its messages gain strength. When women are objectified in media, to what extent does that objectification affect a new generation of girls and women from realizing their full potential? Jennifer Siebel Newsom offers a frank and unflinching look at the gender inequality behind and in front of the cameras, and not only identifies the problems but offers solutions.
Wednesday, June 22, 8:00 p.m.
Regina Kulik Scully, Executive Producer (I'85)

AGE OF CHAMPIONS
Christopher Rufo
USA, 2011, 70 MINUTES, ENGLISH

A team of hard-elbowing, trash-talking basketball grandmothers. A feisty 100-year-old tennis player. An indomitable pole-vaulter and his new rival. Washington, DC’s octogenarian Tatum brothers, still swimming like much younger men. These are the elite National Senior Games athletes in AGE OF CHAMPIONS, which celebrates not only their competitive drive, but also their rich personalities. Director Christopher Rufo’s eye for detail turns the film into an essay about lives well lived, not just medals won.
Saturday, June 25, 5:15 p.m.
Sunday, June 26, 2:15 p.m.
Christopher Rufo, Director (F'06)

MAY/JUNE: Art Gallery Tour & Book Signing

Over 50 members of GEMA DC gathered at the Avery art gallery in WestEnd, DC, on Thursday, May 12th for a sunset happy hour and evening of ‘art under the stars.’ A glimpse into the world of a European art dealer and informal tours of Evelyn Avery’s art collection made for a special atmosphere in which to visit, meet and reconnect with GEMA DC members.

A few weeks later on June 1st, GEMA DC welcomed members and Georgetown College Dean Chet Gillis back to the Avery gallery for an evening with Leslie J. Little (C’86), award-winning author of Georgetown Icons, a museum quality book commissioned by Georgetown University. Presenting the making and inspiration behind this project, Leslie Little signed copies of this emotional tour de force and work of historic importance for all who love Georgetown. GEMA DC members may purchase their limited first-edition Georgetown Icons
